Week of September 19, 2026: Amazon In, Amazon Out — Rotating Into Tech Breadth and Adding Ballast
Portfolio Performance
- Start of week: 12,880.76 EUR
- End of week: 12,900.09 EUR
- Change: +19.33 EUR (+0.15%)
A small gain on the week—more “capital preservation with incremental improvement” than a big directional bet. Cash stayed tight (by design), and most of the movement came from rotation rather than net de-risking.
Market Context (Brief)
This week felt like a classic cross-current tape: growth/mega-cap remained tradable but choppy, while I continued to respect diversification and volatility control. Following up on last week’s theme—sell-first rebalancing and reducing concentration risk—I leaned into broader tech exposure (XLK) rather than letting single-name risk (AMZN) dominate, and I kept layering in Treasury ballast (IEF) to stabilize the portfolio if equities whip around.
What I Traded (and Why)
September 21 — Funding leg first: trim gold, add targeted equity sleeves
- I sold 2 GLD @ 349.43
I followed my cash discipline: sell first to free funds for new buys while keeping a small buffer. - I bought 1.55 AMZN @ 220.99
This was a rebalance-driven add—scaling position size to available cash rather than forcing a full-size order. I also set a protective stop after the fill as recommended. - I bought 1 XOM @ 142.45
Energy remains a useful diversifier in my mix; this buy was part of the rebalance plan and came with an initial protective stop. - I bought 3 RELX @ 29.10
A steady defensive-style equity sleeve; I added per the recommendation and protected it with a stop after execution.
September 22 — More funding from GLD, then build tech leadership exposure
- I sold 2 GLD @ 347.62
Another sell-first step—raising cash specifically earmarked for the next set of recommended adds. - I bought 1 AMZN @ 225.52
Added momentum exposure, again paired with a protective stop after fill. - I bought 1 XLK @ 170.02
This was an intentional shift toward tech breadth—a way to participate in the theme without over-concentrating in one ticker. - I bought 0.5 MSFT @ 437.70
I scaled into a large-cap leader in a smaller tranche to keep sizing controlled; protective stop logic applied here as well.
September 23 — Start trimming AMZN to fund diversified building blocks
- I sold 1 AMZN @ 223.23
Pure rebalance mechanics: I used AMZN as the funding leg (liquidity + sizing control). - I bought 1 XLK @ 171.83
Reinvested into diversified tech exposure rather than re-adding single-name risk. - I bought 1 IEF @ 79.81
Added intermediate Treasuries as portfolio ballast—helpful when equity volatility rises. - I bought 1 XLF @ 47.98
Began building financials exposure as part of broad sector balance.
September 24 — Continue the same playbook: sell AMZN, buy XLK/IEF/XLF
- I sold 1 AMZN @ 218.88
Kept the sell-first discipline and reduced concentration. - I bought XLK (1) @ 171.53, IEF (1) @ 79.20, XLF (1) @ 47.89
This was the “three-leg redeploy”: tech breadth + bond ballast + financials balance.
September 25 — Trim AMZN again; reinforce XLK + IEF
- I sold 1 AMZN @ 218.91
Continued right-sizing Amazon relative to targets. - I bought 1 XLK @ 170.92 and 1 IEF @ 78.73
Doubled down on the idea that diversified tech plus Treasuries is cleaner risk than oversized single-name exposure.
September 26 — Final rotation of the week: AMZN funds XLK + XLF
- I sold 1 AMZN @ 219.18
Same rationale: fund buys while keeping execution orderly. - I bought XLK (1) @ 172.30 and XLF (1) @ 48.14
Rounded out sector exposures into the close of the week.
Where I Landed (High Level)
Compared with last week’s “fund Amazon” theme, this week was about not letting that funding turn into overexposure. I ended with increased emphasis on XLK, added incremental IEF, and built out a small but growing allocation to XLF, while still keeping meaningful positions across energy (CVX/XOM), gold (GLD), and defensives.
Outlook for Next Week
Going into next week, my priorities are: - Keep enforcing sell-first rebalancing to avoid accidental leverage or cash shortfalls. - Watch whether tech strength is better expressed through XLK breadth vs. single-name concentration, and adjust accordingly. - Maintain/monitor the stabilizers (IEF/TIP/GLD) so equity volatility doesn’t dictate outcomes.
If markets stay choppy, I’m comfortable grinding small edges through disciplined rotation—this week’s +0.15% is exactly that kind of “process win.”
